8 Steps to an At-Home Manicure

Although it’s always a treat to go to the salon to get your nails done, it can be costly if this is something performed routinely. You will be able to save yourself a trip to the salon if you know how to do your own manicure from the comfort of your own home. You will need to have some time on your hands and here is a way to get started on your professional, at-home nails.

1. Keep them Clean

The most important thing that you can do is make sure that you keep your nails clean. Use nail polish remover and wipe off the varnish that you already have on your nails. Make sure that the product is free of acetone so that it isn’t going to dry out your nails. When they are dry they are more likely to become brittle.

2. Keep their Shape

Maintaining the shape of your nails is extremely important. Get rid of the old and chipped polish.

Take a pair of salon clippers and also a file to your nails. Make sure to file them from the edges of your nails to the center of them. The stroke of the file should be the same – do not file them in a see-saw motion.

3. Soak your Nails

Soaking your nails is going to keep all of the dry skin away from your nails. Fill a bowl with warm water and lemon juice. The acid is going to act as a natural bleach and the warm water will loosen up your cuticles. There are many people who like to add in a soap based product but this can dry out your hands and make them feel extremely uncomfortable.

Use a cream on each one of your nail beds and then take some time to gently massage it into each one. You can use olive oil if you do not have a store bought cream although it can be a little messy.….READ MORE ON THE NEXT PAGE
